The city of Coral Gables recently approved its first senior living community with memory-care unit proposed by Belmont Village Senior Living, developer and operator of Assisted Living communities in 30 locations across the US and in Mexico City. Belmont of Houston is collaborating with Baptist Health to co-develop the 350,000 square-foot facility that will eventually include a 10-story care unit with assisted living and memory care, 232 private apartments for independent living, and over 18,000 square feet of retail space.
By leveraging relationships in the medical community and schools of hospitality, founder Patricia Will, (now CEO) merged the best of both worlds in 1997 to found Belmont Village Senior Living and opening the first facility, Belmont Village West University in Houston, in 1998. With a background in real estate, specifically as a developer for medical properties, Will and her partners continued to grow with facilities in seven US states and one internationally.
Baptist Health is a not-for-profit organization supported by philanthropy and committed to a faith-based charitable mission of medical excellence, with 10 hospitals, and more than 40 physician practices, 50 outpatient and urgent care facilities, Baptist Health Medical Group, and internationally renowned centers of excellence spanning across south Florida counties.
“Our aim with this partnership is nothing short of reinventing wellness and quality of life for seniors in South Florida,” said Will in a press release in mid-March. “Thanks to the richness of experience each team brings, we have the potential to change the paradigm for lifestyle and care for the extraordinary elderly population in this region.”
The units in Belmont Village Coral Gables will vary from a 315-square-foot studio with one bathroom to a 1,250-square-foot two bedroom, two bathroom unit. Some of the amenities include multiple dining venues, a sports lounge, theater, gym, salon, music room, town hall center, and a pool. Rents are expected to start at $6,000 per month for independent living and $6,500 per month for assisted living, including meals, scheduled transportation and recreational activities.
Baptist hired Corwil Architects to design the building and Moss Construction Management is the builder. The project is expected to break ground in the fall 2020, and be completed by 2022.
